Whether you’re driving, railing or biking in the United States, every road, bridge and tunnel you take is managed by each state’s Department of Transportation. One state’s DOT looked to fast-track citizen experience improvement, so they turned to Blue Prism to digitize business processes and improve overall operational efficiency.
One state’s department of transportation always seeks ways to transform their business processes. They’re constantly looking to optimize traffic flow, build solutions faster and maintain infrastructure to help get citizens where they need to go, safely and quickly.
With the introduction of mobile IT platforms to trucks and intelligent sprinklers with sensors to bridges, tunnels and corridors came the need to be more tech-savvy. However, standardizing processes across multiple districts in the department was going to be a tough job.
Technology is increasingly becoming incorporated into all jobs at the department. In response, management tasked IT with the challenge of identifying processes that could be automated, providing a framework that allowed for growth, and then deploying reliable intelligent automation, all without disrupting day-to-day activities.
To support the automation process, the state’s department of transportation launched an internal IT business unit. They then deployed Blue Prism to provide targeted solutions that could quickly and effectively augment business processes without requiring lengthy and expensive application development or software procurement.
Blue Prism’s digital workers have immediately benefited employees across the business, freeing their time and helping them build a faster, nimbler, more innovative culture. One finance employee, bored by repetitive journal entry tasks, trained to use Blue Prism; in turn, he trained a digital worker to take over his repetitive work, and he can now focus on the work that brings him joy.
The department can now easily cultivate and enhance small businesses in the state. Digital workers utilize data from its small business administration to develop a precise geospatial map of every business. This resource enables the department to source goods and services they require from local businesses. This department of transportation is continuing to automate processes, allowing the organization to save money which can be reinvested into the state’s roadways.
